Black and White Family Portraits
I think black and white portraits are the best because they bring out the emotions of the model better than a pictures with color. The idea of the family comes with a lot of emotion, so black and white family portraits look very meaningful to me. I didn’t want to take a bunch of pictures of family groups just sitting still, staring at the camera, smiling awkwardly; that’s not what a family is. I wanted this portfolio to put an emphasis on how perfectly imperfect and wild a family can be but also show how beautiful it is. My technique was to simply take pictures of my family members doing random acts of love and kindness with one another. For example, they may be holding hands or hugging each other. I tried to make the pictures sort of candid. I also had to take multiple pictures of the same thing in case they moved too much and created a blurry effect. Once the pictures were taken, I would edit them in Photoshop so that when they were black and white I could still adjust the colors. I didn’t have much of an inspiration except for the fact that I love my family and I enjoy taking pictures of them.
